Leading rongorongo scholars condemn Metoro because of the copious flaws in his work. Yet, by joining both the lexicon of the Lunar Calendar (Table 2) and Metoro’s best efforts (Table 3) it is possible to derive values for nine of the first ten glyphs of the Barthel catalogue. Barthel himself, considered the single outlier (glyph 6) to denote the concept of doing work (Krupa 1972: 21). That translation is efficient (Berthin et al. 2005: 12-15).
